Jeanne Dekkers Architectuur starts research on vacant offices with subsidy from SfA
JDA has received a subsidy from The Netherlands Architecture Fund for researching ‘shedding new light on vacant offices’. In collaboration with the Belgium office Re-GEN extensive research will be done on the transformation of unoccupied office buildings in Belgium and the Netherlands. The motive for this research is the high structural vacancy rate in the office market in both countries. Specific to this research will be that the inaccessible grey mass of unoccupied office space will be exposed.
The research will focus on the connection between three different levels - interior design, architecture and regional development – in this matter the transformation of unoccupied office buildings not only results in an upgrade at building level, but also causes a regeneration of the district and / or the entire city . The three levels are linked to various sustainability themes such as cradle to cradle, ‘the new way of working’ (NWOW) and the increase of shrinkage.
The final result of the research will be published in a handbook, including various strategies and that can be used for the transformation of vacant offices.
