Multifunctional heart for Belfeld
This afternoon the construction of the new cultural centre in Belfeld will officially start. At 16:00 at Hamarplein 2 the ceremony starts, which will have a "carnivalesque" character because of the date and proximity to carnaval. The building, designed by Jeanne Dekkers Architecture in Delft, will accommodate the expanded cultural and associational activities that Belfeld has and will soon form the new heart of the town.
The new building replaces the old community centre that has now been demolished. The sports centre and library are preserved. They will be spatially connected by the new building and will each receive a new entrance in the community centre. The new building itself offers a lobby area with bar, a multifunction hall, several meeting rooms and a health centre. Part of the challenge was to create a new square so that the building will become part of the route through the centre of town. The design, materials and colors have been chosen after consultation with those involved, so that a building is created that fits Belfeld and of which the inhabitants can be proud of.
