De Nayer Institute in Sint-Katelijne-Waver faced a dual task of creating an attractive campus, where students and staff feel at home, whilst making it more appealing to users and visitors. Jeanne Dekkers Architectuur designed this sustainable, phased Master Plan for the terrain and buildings for the next twenty years. Furthermore we produced a sketch design for the first new building.
In this plan the landscape elements that are present are enhanced and assured for the future. By strategically planning the construction and demolition within the frameworks and policies of the Master Plan there will be a clear, transparent learning environment where technology and education are given a lasting place.
The campus is located in a rural and green environment that sets it apart from other educational environments. In and around Sint-Katelijne-Waver many historic buildings -anchors from the past- give a face to the identity of the region. The adjacent castle Fruytenborg and the Midzeel farm were obvious inspirations for the design of the Master Plan. Subsequently, the new buildings will be realized in a natural brick. In the design, the historical lines are brought back, a central outdoor space is made in the form of a square, more recreational green spaces are created and the recognition of the campus entrance is enhanced. The quality of the outdoor space is thus greatly improved. Jeanne Dekkers Architectuur will further develop the campus Master Plan and then act as supervisor for the subprojects.
