The ‘Tamarixplantsoen’ (Tamarixplantation) in Heerhugowaard is subject to renewal; the existing low rise houses for assisted living and a gym will be replaced by an apartment complex of five floors. Besides apartments, new assisted living homes will be created, which will replace the current outdated houses. Furthermore a health care center and a new gym will be housed in the complex.
The plantation is a quiet, green area and is bordered by water on the north-west side. The L-shaped volume of the building creates an appropriate urban incorporation; the street side will get a clear boundary, while the other side remains open to the green and water.
The organization of the various functions caters to the different proposed characters. The apartments, the health care center and the gym have their entrances on the busy street side, while the assisted living apartments get a less public entrance on the green and quiet side of the building.
