Residences Sibeliuslaan Eindhoven

To replace a school formerly located on this site, Jeanne Dekkers Architecture designed an assisted living complex for senior citizens that allows for a variety of living arrangements. The block was conceived as an environment: a 'neighbourhood within a neighbourhood', connected closely to the rest of the area. A footpath from the surrounding neighbourhood traverses the complex. The façade reaches its highest point along the main road; then it twists and turns to the lower level of the volumes beyond. The façades are clad in horizontally jointed brick. The loggias recede and the balconies protrude, which strengthens the impression of small-scale and personal accommodations. The lower building volumes are grouped around courtyards, creating a safe environment. Public facilities like a restaurant, a doctor's practice and a chemist are on a larger courtyard along the central route. The health care facilities located in the base of the building are available to the entire neighbourhood. The design offers a bespoke living environment that is tightly intertwined with the surrounding area.
